Controlled Atmosphere Cabinets

Controlled Atmosphere Cabinets are storage systems based on controlled atmosphere storage technology. These products monitor and adjust the levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen in a gas-tight container depending upon the metabolic activity of the produce such as fruits and vegetables. Controlled Atmosphere Cabinets can be i) static controlled atmosphere storage or ii) flushed controlled atmosphere storage depending on the degree of control exerted by the gases. In the “static” type, the produce generates the atmosphere, whereas in the “flushed” type the gas stream provides the atmosphere; the atmosphere is maintained by scrubbing and ventilation. Controlled Atmosphere Cabinets offer extended storage life, delay ripening of fruits and vegetables, preserve the firmness of the produce, increase turgidity, limit physical alterations such as browning, and water core or chill injuries, and maintain the color of the produce.
