Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is a cytokine that is essential to the development of T and B cell development. Immature immune cell arrest is caused as a result of a lack of IL-7. Several disorders, including HIV infections, chronic infections, cancer, and aging, are being treated with therapies that target IL-7 due to its crucial involvement in immunity and the pathogenesis of cancer.
The IL-2 cytokine superfamily, which also contains IL-2, IL-4, IL-9, IL-15, and IL-21, covers IL-7. To induce the Jak/STAT signaling cascade, IL7 binds to the common gamma chain receptor (ɣc/IL2RG) along with the receptor for IL-7, IL7RA/CD127.
Additionally, IL7R is activated by thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), which then forms a heterodimer with the TSLP receptor (TSLPR/CRLF2). TSLP signaling is also essential in influencing lymphocyte fate and function.
